Trucker - Pavel Novotny

rose Buch-Ion (217): Thilo Thielke - A love in Auschwitz (Hardcover) (2000)

(Cover: Amazon.de )

In this moving book, I was aware through a SPIEGEL article in 1999 . The journalist working for the magazine Thilo Thielke tells the true story of a spectacular escape from Auschwitz death camp in 1944, triggered by a love story in the face of death.

The love among the first occupants in 1940 as a resistance fighter in the camp is provided Jerzy Bielecki in in 1943 entered the camp Jew Cyla Cybulska. In order to save them from certain death, he devises a daring escape plan that they using a stolen SS uniform should lead to freedom. But although the project succeeds, it is for the two lovers a happy ending, as his Polish family relationship with a Jewish woman is not tolerated and members of the now simulate the partisans fighting the death of Jerzy cyclase. Even the girls served up a lie about the fate of the beloved and so everything seems in vain - by the year 1983 ...

Rolf Becker reads this moving story with quiet, the subject matter more appropriate voice. Not only does this book describes the horrors of the extermination camp in a penetrating way it deals with with the anti-Semitism the Catholic Polish people also still a little known and often ignored until today and declared taboo piece of history. Highly recommended!
